Foreword
Welcome to the Postwick magazine from 1905 to 1910 and the Blofield Deanery magazine from 1916 to 1920. They cover the events in Postwick and over 20 other local parishes. They are a fascinating glimpse of bygone times and events in the Broadland area. They were originally owned by Gertrude Payne who lived at the square, Oaks Lane, Postwick (now a small area of woodland). Her son Paul Payne looked after the books and is still living on Oaks Lane.
This project was born from a chance remark I made to Paul about my love of history. He said I would probably find some books he had of Postwick history very interesting. I was immediately hooked reading about the life in the parish and neighbouring parishes. Others agreed with me so it was decided to try to digitise their contents and make them available to a wider audience online.
My thanks goes to Paul Payne for kindly giving permission and to the Postwick with Witton parish council and social club for funding the project.
Also to Archive Vault in Rackheath who carefully unbound the books, scanned each page in and rebound the books beautifully.
